Getting Error on Login: Authentication Servers Down for Maintenance

I have my server running snapshot 17w06a. Just starting today, when I try to login I get the error Login Failed: Authentication Servers are down for maintenance. Anyone know what this is or how to fix it?

This means the log in servers on MineCraft/Mojang's end are down - you just need to wait for them to come back up when this happens.

You can check if their servers are having issues here: http://xpaw.ru/mcstatus/
From what I can tell it was only a brief blip on their servers, things came back up shortly after.

Thanks Richard_bn. It was actually quite lengthy. I checked that site just before I went to bed and it had been down for 222 minutes at that point. Thanks for confirming that Mojang was where the issue was!

Guessing they messed something up with their database update the other day then - hopefully doesn't happen again!
